In my most recent pregnancy labor and delivery, my husband and I waited a little too long to leave our home, and our daughter was born in our car. When I arrived at the hospital to receive post-delivery and newborn care, I was received by an excellent and capable team who attended to my needs and allowed me to remain with my newborn and husband throughout the process. I did not feel judged for our error in timing. Instead, I felt respected and cared for. Our team honored our preferences for visitors, did everything they could to accommodate a healthy feeding and sleep schedule during our stay, and worked hard to help us discharge just after our daughter turned 24 hours so that we could return home and be with our older children.
